Decrease calories during the week to compensate for higher weekends?

Uncategorized May 18, 2020

Question: I have had very little progress over the last 4 weeks. I know that part of my struggle is that we’ve been going camping every weekend and my food options are hard to track - sometimes no reception so I can’t track, sharing food prep with others so i can’t plan the meal, lots of snacks around when hungry. When I’ve tried to track after the fact I’m finding that I’m at least 300-400 calories over. During the week I am hitting my macros spot on. Even when our family isn’t camping on the weekends, we generally have a date night and eat out Sat nights and then have family dinners on Sundays that I don’t always know what I’m going to have available. I’m just noticing that weekends are consistently being higher, but I’m able to stick to my macros during the week. I’m wondering if it would help my progress if I cut my calories during the weekdays so that it doesn’t derail my numbers if I go over on the...

Pregnancy and reverse

Uncategorized May 07, 2020

Question: Hi! If I get pregnant during my cut and then want to go through the reverse diet, how can I know when I have hit my maintenance? I just watched the module and it seems like you look closely at measurements every week to adjust so I was curious how that works if you have some weight gain from pregnancy. Thanks!

Answer: You can use your estimated TDEE as a guideline of where your maintenance calories would be. Then you can work with your Doctor to determine what a healthy amount of weight gain would be for you personally. You can definitely continue tracking your macros at maintenance if you feel comfortable doing so.

Difference in phones

Uncategorized May 06, 2020

Question: When Amber goes to her phone to put in a recipe, she goes to the screen and clicks on the bottom where there are 3 dots and the word more under the dots. My phone does not have that. I believe she also did this when setting her goals. I don't know how to access these sites and it is very frustrating.

Answer: I apologize for the frustration. It is common for apps to look different on the different phone processing systems. The dots and "more" take you to the main menu of My Fitness Pal. Can you locate the main menu in your version or even on a desktop/Computer?

Bondage

Uncategorized May 04, 2020

Question: I have been tracking for 3 weeks (2 weeks with macros set). My results? ZERO. I feel like I am more in bondage to tracking, hitting macros, weighing food, than ever before. Although the miracle scale, expecting change, and all the psychology of change has been helpful- the bottom line is that I am really hating the process. I am constantly recording, cooking, reading , listening and with a handful of non scale victories- which are great- but after 21 days, I am very discouraged. I knew that there was going to be work involved- but this program has been more like a hostile takeover rather than a gentle acquisition of tools and knowledge. Overwhelmed? Yes! A choice- If I pick up what is being laid down, its inevitable

Answer: How can you create a plan that didn’t feel like a "hostile takeover"? What specifically feels that way? What are the parts you hate and how can we get rid of them or shift them? This is such a great conversation to have and a great coaching...

Macro Counting and Age

Uncategorized May 01, 2020

Question: I feel like I have 2 strikes against me when losing weight. One is my age, I am 75. I know how hard it is to lose weight the older I get and my lack of height, I am only 5 1/2 feet. Does this enter in to setting my macros? I have found when doing other weight loss programs that in order to lose weight, I have to eat a lot less calories than younger people.

Answer:

The amount of muscle you have on your body plays more of a factor than your age. If you haven't been exercising as you age then you do begin to lose muscle and that in turn affects your metabolism. However, regardless of age or muscle mass, you will still follow the same steps and guidelines for setting your initial macros. Then you will learn how to analyze the feedback from your body and learn how to adjust your macros according to that feedback and your goals.

Xylitol-sweetened gum

Uncategorized Apr 27, 2020

Question: I'm embarrassed/ashamed to admit that I've had a gum-chewing habit for years (it was transitional from quitting smoking long ago and temporarily was able to break it but find that it's still a source of comfort) and I successfully moved away from artificially sweetened sugar-free gums (e.g., Trident) to xylitol-sweetened gum (Epic Dental brand) several years ago. This product is considered good for dental health, and I've even mentioned my gum-chewing to my dentist without any problems. However, I'm concerned because, all of a sudden, I realized that perhaps I'm sabotaging all of my hard work and negating my wins in Macros 101 because I'm chewing lots of gum and not tracking it. Would this need to be counted as carbs or as anything else? I am embarrassed to to say that the number of pieces I chew throughout the day can be very high. When I think through the module exercises and consider the "worth it" idea and things I'm willing to give up vs. "non-negotiable" items,...
