Question: I want to start by saying since this post 6 days ago, I've gained a total of 4 pounds at pretty much 0.5 lb a day.. my mindset is so warped from all of the years of yo-yo dieting that seeing this increase makes me want to abandon ship and stop doing what I'm doing.. from the post below it was suggested I do a reverse since I had been tracking the previous 5 days and my calorie average was comparable to what I would be doing at a 20% cut, I felt and feel like is probably the best thing but I'm struggling to wrap my head around it. Measurements are the same, no increases.. I increased my calories to what my average was over those previous days. So should I push through or cut? Original post below...
Good morning! Just finished the 2nd live video which encouraged me to take progress photos and make this post😬. If you were to look up the definition of yo-yo dieter my name would appear in big bold letters. I've been on a "diet" since I was 13 years old, I'll be 40 next month. I've had success in the past with keto, whole30, vegan, carnivore, WW and even completed 2 rounds of HCG injections last year, just for the weight to quickly return and then some. With all of that being said, I want to be the healthiest that I can be for MYSELF which will in turn be the healthiest for my family (new mindset here)🙂 I have also counted macros in the past but in my eyes I saw no results because I didn't take photos or measurements and relied only on the scale although I know I was much stronger and had more endurance in the gym. I have been counting and tracking my macros for almost 2 weeks, I slacked a couple of days. To my surprise when calculating my TDEE, my calories were higher than anticipated and I struggled to reach my macros. I'm sure my body is in constant shock thinking the previous meal will be it's last since I haven't been very consistent with feeding her appropriately. My main concern is do I cut or do I reverse? My 500 calories HCG diet ended back in NOV and I was then keto, except for the holiday weeks. I just want to make sure I'm starting off on the right path, and I may need to collect more data first. No changes in my weight and measurements over the last couple of weeks. I am not currently consistent with workouts but plan to have a plan soon. Thanks for your time ❤

Answer: I am proud of you for reaching out for help and not abandoning ship. To be honest, this requires more in depth back and forth coaching that cannot be done in an anonymous question/answer format. I would encourage you to post in the FB group so you can the coaching you so deserve!
That being said, weight gain and fat gain are not a 1:1 ratio. There are MANY things that affect the number on the scale. And the fact that your measurements are the same is an indicator that the increase on the scale is not from fat gain. Stay the course with your reverse and allow your metabolism to recover so you can have a successful cut in the future.
But, again, I encourage you to post in the FB group so you can get more in depth coaching :)
